BRENG101: Engineering technologist and technicians (design, civil, mechanical, electrical)

You will be responsible to perform duties including, but not limited to;

  • Plan the installation of electrical wiring, equipment and fixtures according to project specifications and regulatory codes.
  • Assist in inspection, testing, adjusting and evaluation of components and assemblies to ensure that they conform with product specifications and tolerances and standards.
  • Execute preliminary sketches and cost estimates for internal and external customer projects.
  • Assist in the design, development and testing of electrical and electronic components, equipment and systems.
  • Help to assemble, install and maintain wiring, equipment, apparatus, fixtures and appliances using appropriate tools and methods.
  • Take part in the installation, maintenance and repair according to best practices, regulations and project specifications.
  • Execute preliminary sketches and cost estimates for internal and external customer projects.
  • Attend and coordinate, when possible, project reviews to make sure project parameters align with scopes.
  • Ensure planning and design meets existing and future transportation requirements from a safety and operational perspective.
  • Prepare and review draft plan options with Project Manager and Engineer to provide a clear understanding of feasibility, impacts and benefits
  • Review project scope and objectives for technical feasibility as a subject matter expert with supervising Engineer for the project
  • Review designs with the engineer for accuracy, completeness and conformance to design standards
  • Support technical staff by overseeing drafting work to ensure accurate preparation of contract plans
  • Maintain contact with field personnel throughout the installation and construction phase of the project
  • Inspect projects to ensure measures have been implemented accurately, monitor operations and identify deficiencies after installation/construction
  • Prepare work orders or change requests in an accurate and timely manner
  • Respond to inquiries from the public and attend project meetings.
  • Assist other technical staff in the use of AutoCAD and/or other related software.

You will be responsible to perform design and estimating duties including, but not limited to;

  • Provide technical support and services to engineers and other professionals to accomplished high quality design and construction work.
  • Assist engineers and experts in developing engineering designs, preparing drawings from preliminary concepts and sketches, and providing design solutions to various engineering scenarios.
  • Work closely with cross-functional teams, including engineers and managers to ensure that designs meet specifications, requirements, and customer expectations.
  • Participate in preparing construction specifications, cost and material estimates, project schedules and reports.
  • Prepare and interpret conventional and computer-assisted design (CAD) engineering designs, drawings, and specifications.
  • Visit sites, perform condition assessments, take measurements, gather relevant data and information necessary to prepare drawings, specifications on drawings and in some cases, material take off.
  • Solicit subcontractor and/or supplier quotations or scheduling input as required for the assignments
  • Assist in establishing and maintaining tendering process and setting up cost monitoring and reporting systems and procedures.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

You will be responsible to perform the following duties, but not limited to;

  • Prepare tax returns, statistical, financial and accounting reports and perform other bookkeeping services.
  • Keep financial records, establish, maintain and balance various accounts using manual and computerized bookkeeping systems
  • Record day-to-day financial transactions, complete the posting process, monitor financial transactions and reports.
  • Post journal entries and reconcile accounts, prepare trial balance of books, maintain general ledgers and prepare financial statements
  • Examine financial accounts and records and prepare income tax returns from accounting records
  • Calculate and prepare monthly GST payment and reasonability tests, cheques for payrolls tax and other bills
  • Plan, set up and administer accounting systems and prepare financial information for individuals, departments, and overall O&N businesses.
  • Examine financial accounts and records, prepare income tax returns from accounting records, develop and maintain cost finding, reporting and internal control procedures
  • Complete and submit tax remittance forms, workers’ compensation forms, pension contribution forms and other government documents.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

You will be responsible to perform the following duties including, but not limited to;

  • Ordering office supplies and replacements, as well as managing mail and courier services.
  • Prepare, key in, edit and proofread correspondence, invoices, presentations, brochures, publications, reports and related material from machine dictation and handwritten copy.
  • Preparing facilities for scheduled events, organize workshops and conferences and arranging refreshments, if required to improve productivity.
  • Open and distribute incoming regular and electronic mail and other material and coordinate the flow of information internally and with other departments and organizations.
  • Ensure accurate and timely service and respond quickly and proactively to customer requests.
  • Scheduling appointments, confirm appointments and meetings of employer, maintaining an events calendar, and sending reminders.
  • Answer telephone and electronic enquiries and relay telephone calls and messages.
  • Set up and maintain manual and computerized information filing systems.
  • Determine and establish office procedures, order office supplies, and maintain inventory.
  • Ascertain nature of business and direct visitors to employer or appropriate person.
  • Record and prepare minutes of meetings, arrange travel schedules and make reservations.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Capable to work on multiple projects concurrently with proven problem-solving skills and excellent organizational skills.
  • For each of the positions above, there is a need for the candidate to have completed a 2- or 3-years diploma in the field of interest. At least 1 to 2 years of work experience related to the position he/she is applying. In the engineering positions, proficient with drafting and design using AutoCad, Solidworks or related software is required.
  • Understanding of teamwork in a technical field for the engineering position.
  • Ability to work long hours on a construction site, conflict resolution and negotiation skills with experience in solving complex and sensitive issues is an asset.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills in both English and/or French
  • Demonstrated ability and willingness to develop strong relationships and deliver work in a timely, collaborative and integrated.
